<p>1382010 Treatment of crops and animal feedstuffs CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 2 May 1973 [28 June 1972] 20748/73 Addition to 1320964 Heading A2D A method of controlling or inhibiting the growth of organisms such as fungi, moulds, yeasts and bacteria in organic matter comprises adding to the organic matter a treating composition comprising (I) a condensation product of an unsubstituted C 1-3 alkanoic acid and formaldehyde or a formaldehyde polymer or (2) a solution of the acid of (1) and either formaldehyde, a formaldehyde polymer or a salt of a formaldehyde precursor or (3) a bis ester compound of general formula: wherein Rand R<SP>2</SP> are each hydrocarbyl groups of from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; R' is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group of from 1 to 10 carbon atoms optionally substituted by 1 to 5 chlorine atoms; and n is 1, 2 or 3. Exemplified compositions comprise methylene bis butyrate, oxybismethylene bis butyrate, benzylidene bispropionate, ethylidene and trichloroethylidene bispropionate, or allylidene bispropionate. The treatment of wood chips, hay, soybeans and corn seeds is described.</p> |
