1403090 Dynamo-electric machines with rigid foundations WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 4 Sept 1972 [18 Oct 1971] 40848/72 Heading H2A [Also in Division F2] In a vertical axis waterwheel generator, the stator 16 rests on a series of plates 18 on a rigid foundation 10, and is flexibly joined by radial and circumferential members 26, 28 to rigid L-shaped beams 20 each having a vertical section 21 with an end embedded in the foundation 10, and also a horizontal radial section 22 with an end embedded in a rigid concentric wall 12 integral with foundation 10. The radial members 26, in the form of rods with spring portions (not illustrated), and the plates 18 thereby allow the machine to expand/contract freely in the radial direction whilst the members 28, in the form of plates, accommodate tangential forces. The members 28 may also support heat exchangers 32 for cooling purposes. |
