Cpds. of formula (I): where R1, R2 = H, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl, or R1 + R2 = bivalent cyclic alkyl group, R3 = alkyl, OH, alkoxy, amino, alkylamino or dialkylamino, the group -CH2O NR1R2 being in the 2- or 6-position. Anti-inflammatories useful in treating rheumatoid diseases such as rheumatic fever and rheumatoid arthritis. Daily dosage of 2-hydroxy-methyl-5-carbethoxypyridine N-methyl-carbamate is 5-30 mg/kg; long-term treatment is possible because of absence of deleterious effects, and the action is rapid.
