<p>1450616 Pipe connectors S R V GEBELIUS 21 Nov 1974 [20 Dec 1973] 50506/74 Heading F2G A connector for mounting on a pipe 12 and enabling it to be connected to a transversely extending pipe 16<SP>1</SP> comprises a body formed of two parts 10, 10<SP>1</SP> which are clamped to one another around the pipe 12 in a fluid tight manner, e.g. by use of a jointing compound, the body part 10 having therein a passage for connection to the pipe 16<SP>1</SP> by way of a bush 16, and a bore 13 which partly intersects the wall of the pipe 12 within the body, the bore 13 containing a valve body 17 which can be moved axially within the bore and from the position shown so that the leading edge 17<SP>1</SP> thereof cuts off the intersected part 14 of the wall of the pipe 12 to establish connection with the interior of the pipe 12, the valve body 17 being retained in this position by the action of a spring 22 and being rotatable by means of a knob 20, so that a passageway 18 through the valve body may be used to provide flow communication and control between the pipes 12 and 16<SP>1</SP>. The axial movement of the valve body 17 may be effected by means of a blow to the knob 20, or, as shown, by use of an explosive cartridge 24 detonated by a firing pin 26. The cut-off wall part 14 is retained in a well formed at the blind end of the bore and fitted with plastics material 23.</p> |
