The equipment purifies polluted air by combustion of the polluting agents, and has three or four concentric cylinders forming annular spaces in which the polluted air flows, exchanging heat by contra-flow before entering the furnace proper formed by the innermost one, into which fuel is fed to give by combustion the oxidation temperature of the polluting agents. The outermost cylinder is sealed at one end by an arched plate or bottom, and has at the other a larger-diameter manifold, giving an even flow along the cylinder. Plate or bottom are removable to allow direct discharge of burnt gases. It is shorter than the next one inwards, over which it fits detachably by a flange on the manifold, so that the inner one can be supplied direct. There is a tapping in the manifold by which gases are discharged. The next cylinder is supplied with polluted air by a tapping in its portion left free, and is coupled to the furnace by a semi-toroidal section. The furnace is closed at the other end by an arched base with a central hole having a spigot on the inside, and through which air and fuel are introduced. The fuel nozzle is telescopic, varying the length of the furnace exposed to heat and flame. |
