1,244,078. Metal impregnated graphite. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY. 9 Dec., 1969 [13 Dec., 1968], No. 60050/69. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions B3, C7 and G6] Graphite is impregnated with an alloy of Bi and Ni. The alloy preferably contains 8 to 27% by weight of nickel, the two most preferred values being 9 %and 25% by weight of Ni. The 9% alloy is impregnated into graphite at 800‹ C., the 25% alloy at 1250‹ C. both under a nitrogen pressure of 20 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> The product is of value in making parts for nuclear reactors, the 9% alloy impregnate withstanding an operating temperature of 460‹ C. and the 25% impregnate a temperature of 650‹ C. Depending on the graphite used the final product contains 10 to 20% by volume of the alloy. |
