<p>1,3,4-Trimethyl-1-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)-1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-pyrid ine chloride and N-methyl-N-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)-2,3-dimethyl-2,4-pentadienamine (formula I), which can be used as painkillers, are obtained by initially refluxing, in a first synthesis step, 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl chloride with 1,3,4-trimethyl-1,2,5,6-tetra-hydropyridine in an anhydrous solvent, from which reaction mixture 1,3,4-trimethyl-1-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine chloride is formed upon cooling. This compound is subsequently subjected, in a second step, to a degradation reaction by boiling it over a prolonged period in an aqueous solution of an alkaline metal hydroxide, giving the compound of the formula (I). <IMAGE></p> |
