<p>The mechanism compresses the rubbish loaded into a dustbin, having a bar working in a vertical guide in a cross-beam above the bin, actuated by a handle, and with a pressure plate at the bottom end. For use in conjunction with a dustbin having a flanged top end (4) the cross-beam (8) has at each end a support bracket (9, 11) fitting over and under the flange. One bracket is fixed to the member and the other slides along it and is lockable in position (11, 12). The handle (18) acting on the bar (14) works in bearings on the beam. A handle (25) can be provided at each end of the beam, the bar being worked by a rack-and-pinion drive from the operating handle (18).</p> |
