A shelf storage system uses pallets and is equipped with transverse supports. It is fitted with automatic self-acting safety elements. The safety element can be put out of action by before lifting out process is performed and it automatically returns to its initial position. The safety element is fitted with cams or hooks. It has a hole permitting the safety pin to act on the column thus making it possible for one person along to both take out or hang up a transverse support. The safety bolt is fitted with a slot which prevents it sliding out during lifting of the transverse support.
