METHOD OF BURNING EXHAUST SMOKE

PURPOSE: To control the combustion of refuse and air pollution by controlling the temp. of a reburn chamber according to a specified fuel amt. and a gas amt. including oxygen to maintain the heat quantity passing through the reburn chamber within a level not exceeding specified value and recovering the produced heat. CONSTITUTION: An incinerator 30 is composed of three combustion stages. Bulk refuse is fed in a refuse hopper and enters a main combustion chamber 32 in the first combustion stage. A gaseous combustion product moves to the second combustion stage 46 and flows through the third combustion stage to a vertical stack. The main combustion chamber 32 has an auxiliary burner 37 for burning an auxiliary fuel to ignite refuse filled in the chamber 32. From the second stage 46 an incomplete combustion gas product enters via an orifice into the third stage. The pass heat quantify at the second stage is held at 15,000 Btu/ft<2> .hr. The gas passes below a cylindrical baffle 62 and additional air is mixed with the combustion gas by jet. The combustion gas finally gasses below the baffle 62 to flow in the stack.
