The clamping washer for a screw terminal, consists of a roughly rectangular arched piece that is pressed down onto the wire by a screw passing through its centre. The wire is held between the underside of the washer (4) and the top of the base of the terminal. The inner region of the contact face is set back up away from the outer region so that the raised areas (6) on the underside of the washer that contact the wire cannot touch the side walls (1) of the terminal housing for any angle of inclination of the washer.
