Intermediate chambers are formed between the separation chamber outlet opening and the purified water outlet (105) in the treatment vessel by partition walls extending between the inside of the purification vessel and the outside of this chamber. A water purification device (1) for a boat comprises a closed vessel with an inlet (103) for wastewater, an outlet for purified water and an outlet (115) in the upper part of the vessel for removing sludge formed during flotation. The vessel contains a separation chamber and a vertical pipe extending from the bottom of this chamber to a point inside this chamber beneath the upper part from where sludge is removed. An outlet channel is formed between the vertical pipe and the separation chamber walls. The wastewater inlet is connected to the lower part of the vertical pipe. An outlet opening indirectly connected to the purified water is located in the outlet channel in the lower part of the separation chamber. At least three intermediate chambers are located between the separation chamber outlet opening and the purified water outlet. These intermediate chambers are formed by partition walls extending between the inside of the vessel and the outside of the separation chamber. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Water purification system for a boat which comprises this purification device; and (2) Method for purifying water in a vessel on a boat.
