Plastics palette with satisfactory toughness and stiffness - consists of polypropylene and low pressure polyethylene in about equal amts.

The palette consists of 40-60 pts. polypropylene (I), with a molwwt. of 450,000-500,000 and a melt flow index (MFI) 190/5 value of 1-3, pref. 2, and 60-40 pts. low pressure polyethylene (II) with a mol. wt. of 90,000-100,000 and a MFI 190/5 value of 1-3, pref. 2. Besides giving tough, stiff prods., the blend is suitable for injection moulding. The notched impact strength is better than for (I) and the flexural stiffness better than for (II). For example, a blend of (I) (mol. wt. 470,000; MFI 190/5 2) and (II) (mol. wt. 96,000; MFI 190/5 2) satisfied all the requirements of DIN E 32,600, unlike (I) (mol. wt. 340,000; MFI 190/5 4.5) or (II) (mol. wt. 68,000; MFI 190/5 6) alone.
