The piston is partic. for I.C. engines with high thermal loading and high average operating pressure. Optimum sealing is achieved without undue complication together with efficient lubrication and cooling. The piston skirt and interior have fluid flow chambers with grooves connected to the piston rings. Control of lubricating fluid pressure provides cooling as well as efficient lubrication. The piston has two sealing rings and a waisted sidewall between them. The recess formed by this is connected with the piston interior. The controlled pressure source is connected to an opening in the piston.
