1307159 Gas fired cupola furnaces PENZENSKY KOMPRESSORNY ZAVOD 30 June 1971 [30 June 1970] 30574/71 Heading F4B In a gas fired cupola 1 having burners 11 in the hearth 7, a baffle plate 16 is mounted for horizontal movement on a beam 14 in guides (15, Fig. 3,) said baffle plate 16 extending below the sill of a charging opening 4 and being cooled by ambient air drawn in through ports 5. The ends of the beam 14 have threaded through them screws (17, Fig. 2) passing through bushing (18) on the cupola walls whereby said beam is moved horizontally. The baffle plate 16 is tilted by an adjustable counterweight 26 on a rod 23 extending through a port 24. Above the hearth 7 is a water cooled tie plate 6 and an arch 8 formed with a passage for hot gases leaving and for molten metal running into the hearth.
