The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-5 alkyl (R<SP>2</SP> = H) or Me (R<SP>2</SP> = Me), and X is halogen or C 1-5 alkoxy. These compounds are prepared by heating the corresponding (a) 4 - (1 - R - allyl)quinoline or 3 - (3- R - allyl) - 4 - mercaptoquinoline to effect cyclization, or (b) 3 - (3 - R - allyl) - 4 - halo(or hydroxy)quinoline or 3 - (3 - R - 2 - halopropyl)- 4 - haloquinoline in presence of a mercapto group introducing agent, to introduce a mercapto group and effect cyclization. 3 - Allyl - 6 - chloro - 4 - mercaptoquinoline is formed as a by-product from 3 - allyl - 4,6- dichloroquinoline and thiourea. Therapeutic compositions comprise compounds of the above formula or their non-toxic pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts, which are antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory. Oral administration is preferred. |
