<p>PURPOSE: To use a computer controlled drilling machine independently of an entire manufacturing system by providing a means for mounting a workpiece, a chuck assembly, a movement means therefor, storage and transfer means for drill bites, a means for the translation of the chuck assembly, and a means for disposing bushings. CONSTITUTION: An automated drilling machine includes a means for mounting a workpiece in a machining position, a chuck assembly 92 for receiving a drill bite 102, a means for selectively moving the chuck assembly 92, a means for storing a plurality of drill bites of various predetermined sizes, and a means for transferring the selected drill bite between the storage means and the chuck assembly 92. The chuck assembly 92 is selectively translated between a transfer station and the machining position and between a plurality of locations on one side of the workpiece aligned with predetermined drilling points in the machining position, and a bushing 238 of the size matching the selected drill bite 102 is disposed in opposed relation to the chuck assembly 92 on the other side of the workpiece aligned with the predetermined drilling points.</p> |
