The dental type flushing and drainage funnel system has a water operated suction or vacuum pump for saliva removal during dental care or processing. A valve device is open when the system is in use and closed when it is not. The valve is situated in the outlet channel of the drainage funnel (1). Faces are provided which open the valve when the funnel is removed from its mounting (15) and close the valve when the funnel is replaced. The valve can comprise a flexible membrane which covers the outlet channel when the funnel is pushed home in its mounting.
