The relay contacts are contained in a sealed tube, filled with iner gas, where mercury or similar conductive liquid is used for wetting the magnetically operated contacts. In the sealed tube is mounted a cylindrical contact armature, slidable axially under the effect of a magnetic field. The armature (16) is made of magnetisable and electrically conductive material. At least its surface cooperating with a switching electrode (12, 13) affords wetting with the conductive liquid (17). This surface contains the entire quantity of this conductive liquid. The armature is slidably carried in a guide tube (9), resistant to wetting and of non-magnetisable material. All the components are so dimensioned and matched as to permit a contact between the armature and switching electrode only via the conductive liquid.
