The application is to the brushless excitation of synchronous machines by means of a thyristor rectifier. The individual thyristors together with their cooling fins (4) are carried in the bore of a cylinder (1b) forming an extension of the disc (1a) mounted on the machine shaft. An extension (1c) on the other side of the disc carries the pulsing circuits (6) for the thyristors. The whole assembly (1) forms one pole of the dc supply to the generator rotor, a second hub (2) forming the opposite pole. On the surface of the hub is mounted the secondary (7) of the control signal transmitter whose primary (8) is fixed to the machine housing (9). The control channels (7a, 7b, etc.) may use capacitative, optical, or inductive links to transmit information across the air gap between stationary and rotating elements.
