<p>The abdominal plate (3) is primarily worn whilst sleeping and gives support to the abdominal muscles whilst maintaining a straight spinal column. The plate is held in place by straps (4) around the wearer's trunk. The plate fixings prevent its sliding relative to the wearer's body, it is held in position pressed against the abdomen and it may be of relatively rigid material, e.g. synthetic resin or latex foam. The plate may have a detachable cover, and be attached to the straps by auto-adhesive pads. It may be of diverse shape e.g. oval or rectangular, and may be specially contoured to the wearer's requirements. One face of the plate may be striated, and the belt may be of permeable elastic construction to promote aeration.</p> |
