High energy high tension ignition system - restricts primary current to preset level to maintain constant power irrespective of voltage supply

The high energy high tension ignition system is intended for use with aircraft gas turbines where it is necessary to maintain a spark at constant power. A fixed frequency oscillator (1) sends pulses to the hysteresis comparator (2) which transmits them through the transistor (3) to the terminal (4) of the primary winding of the transformer. When the current in the primary windings reaches a pre-determined value the comparator (2) shuts off the pulses from the oscillator (1). Thus a constant current is supplied to the transformer (9) of the secondary circuit which generates a spark of constant power at the plug (8) by the discharge of the condenser (7).
