<p>The gasket seals the gap between two pipe flanges for a high pressure liquid line. The pipe flanges are bolted together (16), and the intermediate gasket consists of a thin metal disc (18) with annular U-section corrugations (21). Strips (28, 29, 33) of rubber or elastomeric material are inlaid in the grooves formed on either side of the metal gasket. Each rubber ring has a central upstanding ridge (31) which projects beyond the metal gasket surface, and is compressed when the flanges are bolted tightly together. The metal gasket prevents the rubber from being squeezed out of the gap between the flanges.</p> |
