Refining iron in a converter

Converter (I) with one double coaxial tube tuyere housed in the converter bottom (II), for refining pig iron by blowing highly oxidant gas, in which (a) the centre of the tuyere outlet orifice (III) at the interior of (II) is at a distance from the centre of (II) of 1/3-3/4 of the internal radius of (I) measured at the upper face of (II) on a new lining, (b) the edge of (III) closest to the interior lateral wall is >600 mm from the wall measured from a new lining, (c) the tuyere axis is inclined 2-5 degrees in relation to the longitudinal axis of (I) and also in a direction orthogonal to the radius of the upper face of (II) passing through the centre of (II) and (d) (III) is on one of the two quadrants of (II) which is situated above the melt surface when (I) is in its horizontal posn.
