N-Heterocyclylmethy 12-methoxy-benzamides - useful for treating nervous and psychosomatic disorders (BE170676)

Benzamide derivs. of formula (I) in racemic or optically active form, and their acid addn. salts with pharmaceutically acceptable acids are new: (n = 1 or 2; R1 is ethyl, propyn-2-yl, benzhydryl or p-fluorophenylvinylmethyl; m = 2-5; A = opt. branched 1-4C alkylene; R4 = H, halo (pref. H or Cl), CF3 or 1-3C alkyl, or alkoxy; R2 = Cl, SO2R5, or SO2NR6R7; R5 = 1-4C alkyl; R6 and R7 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl). They are prepd. by reacting an R2-substd. 2-methoxybenzoyl halide with the appropriate 2-aminomethyl-substd. heterocycle. (I) are useful in human and veterinary medicine to treat nervous and psychosomatic disorders, e.g. anxiety with psychosomatic effects such as gastric-duodenal ulcers, migraine or vertigo; depressive and psychopathogolical conditions esp. in old age; and, in larger doses, for psychotic conditions such as delirium.
