Attachment of heat exchanger tubes - incorporates damping material between tubes and holes of tube plate

The intermediate plates of a heat exchanger have holes of a larger diameter than the tubes which pass through them. A foil of pliable plastic material which has vibration damping properties is attached to the side of the tube plate from which the tubes are to be inserted. The foil originally has no perforations and covers the holes. Each tube has a conical nose piece with sharp edges. As it is pushed through the foil it cuts the latter and the circular pieces cut out of the foil are pushed into the gap between the tube and the hole in the tube plate. The foil material takes up the clearance between the tubes and the hole and dampens vibrations.
