The artificial hip joint comprises a femoral portion with an intramedullar stem, a cortical support plate and a spherical head on a neck mounted on the plate, while a cotyloidal socket accommodates the head. The socket (7) floats and is extended by a skirty, so as to form an internal cavity in the shape of a hemisphere followed by a cylinder of the same diameter. The external surface of the socket and the extending skirt form two-thirds of a sphere, and the skirt comes into contact with the neck (5) after pivoting through 20 deg. from the axis of neck and head.
