A warp knitting machine has guide bars fed with layers of yarn from two separate supply package. Essentially one layer of yarn feeds one guide bar and the other layer feeds the other guide bar, but during feed some of the yarns of each layer are guided into the other layer. A visible lined pattern extending inthe wale direction of the knitted fabric is simply produced. The spacing of those yarns selected to be transferred from one layer to the other can be varied to produce different patterns.
