<p>Very hot gas is cooled by the evapn. of a liq. The novelty is that >=1 sheet of liq. mist is produced by the collision of jets of liq., the mist being made very close to the point where the gas is collected; and the gas is compelled to pass through the mist. The mist is pref. made in the rising part of a gas extn. duct located directly above the gas outlet of a furnace or reactor. The pref. plant consists of a gas exten. hood followed by a metal duct contg. two spraying nozzles and an outlet for the excess liq. which is not evaporated and travels into a gutter. The hood is pref. mobile w.r.t. the duct. The plant can be used in the steel or cement industries where a gas must be cooled before purificn. and/or use as a reactant, fuel, or discharge to the environment, e.g. above a steel making converter. This light, simple device is extremely efficient and demands little maintenance, as the surplus liq. is used to cool the metal duct.</p> |
