<p>Electro-optical device having a variable light transmission contains (1) a persistent electrochromic material as light modulating material, (2) a counter electrode having a uniform predefined electrical charge, and (3) an electrolyte material in contact with (1) and (2). Selective variation of the absorption characteristics for electromagnetic radiation is obtd. by varying the applied electric field, or reversing the original polarity of the field, the visible colour can be bleached or replaced. These operations can be effected cyclically.</p> |
