Swaged jointing system for steel and aluminium sections - uses slotted depressed dimples in steel sheet into which aluminium is forced

Much weight can be saved if the steel sections used to hold the conductor strips and the plugs in telecommunication engineering are replaced by extruded aluminium sections. The aluminium sections are suitably connected to the steel sheet metal sections to form a secure joint. Slotted depressed dimples (2) are arranged at a regular distances in the conductor strip holder (1), which consists of a sheet metal channel. When the web (4) of a plug carrier rail (5), made of extruded aluminium, is pressed through the slot, a partial plastic deformation of the web causes the aluminium tof low over the dimple edges and fix the relative location of the two components.
