1472183 Refrigerating AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS Inc 9 May 1974 [8 June 1973] 20568/74 Heading F4H A cryogenic refrigerator 10 comprising first and second stages 12, 14 and a cold stud 16 cools a load, e.g. a sample holder 44 for Mossbauer, spectroscopy, through the intermediary of a heat transfer fluid, e.g. helium or hydrogen, the load being connected to the refrigerator through a vibration isolating sleeve 28. As shown, the refrigeration stages 12, 14 are surrounded by a vacuum jacket 30, 34, 40 and a radiation shield 38 and the heat transfer fluid circulates through heat exchangers 46, 48 and passages 43 in a sample holder adaptor 42. The refrigerator is secured to a rigid support by brackets 18, 20 and the sample holder and surrounding jackets are secured to an optical bench by brackets 24, 26. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the load to be cooled is a superconducting magnet assembly.
