Ester type cholesterol may be converted into free type cholesterol and estimations made using cholesterol oxidase thus prepared in a 0À4 M phosphate buffer (pH 5À2) at 37‹C. Hydrogen peroxide produced is decomposed with a peroxidase and the oxygen generated accepted by a dihomogen e.g. o-anisidine to oxidize it and permit estimation by colonsimetric methods.
