<p>A vibrating sonotrode is applied to a special insert having an axial hollow passage and a toothed profile such that when introduced into a passage in the thermoplastic object the hollow passage becomes filled with molten plastic and the sonotrode forms a rivet head at the top of the insert. An insert can be made in a thermoplastic object without any previously formed hole or a preformed rivet. The end of the sonotrode is shaped to guide the rivet into position and to from the shape of the head. A standard ultrasonic welding machine may be used, including an electronic generator of frequency 15-40 kHz, a piezoelectric transducer and a sonotrode attached to the emitter.</p> |
