1337570 Hydration of olefins VEBA-CHEMIE AG 26 Nov 1970 [1 Dec 1969] 56292/70 Heading C2C Olefins are converted to the corresponding alcohols by hydration in the gas-liquid or gaseous phase using a solid bed catalyst, separating the unreacted olefin by condensation from the reaction mixture leaving the reaction chamber, washing the separated olefin to remove alcohol therefrom, concentrating the olefin by distillation preferably near its critical point and recycling the olefin so that the concentration of olefin in the circulating gas is more than 90% by volume. The distillation of the recycled gas is preferably carried out substantially at the critical pressure of the olefin and in a temperature range embracing the critical temperature. |
