The laser frequency and mode stabilisation network incorporates a heating element which slightly alters the internal laser geometry with temperature change. The laser consists of a glass tube (1) containing a gas, with mirrors (3) at the ends and a central capillary tube (4) and its holder (5) arranged in a suitable manner together with an anode (7) and cathode (8). Around the outer tube is wound a bifilar heating element (8) which is driven by a control circuit which monitors the amplitude difference of the two output modes of the laser. The start-up sequence involves overheating the laser and allowing the demanded frequency to be attained during the cooling period.
|
