Vaporisation of lng by indirect heat exchange - with heat transfer medium heated by direct exchange

Vaporising LNG comprises passing the LNG in indirect counter flow heat transfer with a heat transfer medium which is subsequently warmed by passing in direct counterflow contact with hot combustion gases rising in a tower with an enlarged heat exchange surface. The explosive hazards of direct fired furnace vaporisation are avoided; large quantities of water are not required, ice formation is avoided, and only a small heat exchanger is required.
