Mechanism for dispensing cattle fodder such as pre-dried grass etc. includes a structure provided with a carrier frame and drive means to hold at least one block of raw fodder, and dispensing means to take fodder from this block to the feeding trough, the carrier frame and dispenser being movale relative to one another in the structure. The dispenser is arranged above the carrier frame and includes a beam with transport elements which move fodder from the top of the block to one side of the carrier frame. The dispenser may have a beam with downward tines driven by pivoted levers at both ends so that it moves in a closed curve.
