<p>Securing steel dowels in assembled components incorporating aligned blind holes, where the roles are wetted with a binder resin, and the dowel is precoated with a mixt. of resin and filler. The resin based composition applied to the dowel is subsequently treated with a catalyst or accelerator to promote curing. pref. by spraying or dipping the surface of the coating just prior to inserting the dowel into its hole. Suitable for assembling components, of e.g concrete or wood, e.g for construction of chairs. The dowel may have a round or square cross-section, may be a straight rod or an angle pin, and pref. has a rough or ribbed surface. Also suitable for anchoring one end of threaded or partially threaded bars, i.e to provide anchorage studs in a concrete foundation. The resin enhances the keying of the dowel within its hole to resist disturbance by vibration etc. Use of a deep coating is said to be stronger than thin gum coatings. Application of hardeners to individual coated dowels avoids waste of resin due to pot life limits of premixed coating compsns. incorporating hardeners. Some of the surface hardeners are transferred to the coating resin already within the hole.</p> |
