Green UV-absorbing glass contg. hexavalent chromium - prepd. by incorporating sulphide-contg. blast furnace slag into the melt, useful for champagne bottles

Glass is made by incorporating blast furnace slag which contains sulphide into a melt bath, such that the wt. ratio of sulphate SO3 introduced into the melt to sulphide S--present in the slag is between 20 and 35; the amt. Mn in the finished glass is 0.04 wt.%; and the amt. Cr2O3 in the finished glass is 0.14-0.16 wt.%. Pref. the iron content of the glass (as oxide) is >0.20 wt.% and the sulphate SO3 content is 0.20 wt.%. The glass is esp. useful for making bottles for foodstuffs and pharmaceutical prods. which are sensitive to UV, and esp. for champagne wine bottles.
