1470709 Stabilized photocurable compositions BASF FARBEN & FASERN AG 12 Nov 1974 [19 Nov 1973] 48889/74 Heading C3P Photocurable moulding or coating compositions having improved storage stability comprise an unsaturated polyester resin; at least one unsaturated copolymerizable monomer; a benzoin ether of an aliphatic primary and/or secondary alcohol as photoinitiator; and as storage stabilizer an N-nitrosohydroxylamine compound and/or a salt thereof of the general formula where R is a monovalent aliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic or cycloaliphatic radical, X is a hydrogen or metal atom (e.g. K or Al), or an optionally substituted ammonium radical, and n is a number equivalent to the valency of X. The compositions may also include an organic peroxide, optionally in conjunction with a metal accelerator or tertiary amine, and orthophosphoric acid. The latter serves to increase the stabilizing action of the N-nitrosohydroxylamine compound and also influences the viscosity of the composition so that a thickening or thixotropic agent is not generally required. The unsaturated polyester may be derived, for example, from maleic acid, phthalic acid and 1,2-propylene glycol, with or without additionally ethylene glycol, and the comonomer is preferably styrene but may also be, for example, #-methyl styrene, vinyl toluene, an acrylate ester or a methacrylate ester. Other components which may be present include fillers, waxes, hydroquinone, and glass or synthetic fibres. |
