摘要 1470806 Centrifugal separator E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 23 May 1974 [25 May 1973] 23156/74 Heading B2P A centrifuge for treating, e.g. washing, biological materials by alternate centrifuging and decanting steps, comprises a rotor 37, 38 adapted to pivotally hang a plurality of treatment vessels e.g. test-tubes 46, in such manner that the lower ends of the vessels may swing outwardly under centrifugal force when the rotor is rotated, and a treatment liquid distributor 70 connectible to a source of treatment liquid and rotatable with the rotor, the distributor being arranged to supply treatment liquid to the vessels whilst the rotor is rotating. The rotor includes a tubular hub 37 removably mounted over and driven by a spindle 36 which is in turn driven by a shaft 32 connected to a two-speed electric motor contained in a base which supports a housing consisting of hinged parts 16, 18. Mounted on and rotatable with the shaft 32 is a circular bowl 33 to which is secured a circular base element 34. The hub is connected to a plate 38 having peripheral slots each of which is pivotally engaged by the curved hinge 41 of a tube carrier 42 which accommodates a testtube 46. The bottom portion of the carrier has a support flange 44 which, when the tubular swings outwardly, bears against the inner wall of the bowl 33. During the rest period or the decanting period the carriers and tubes are in a vertical or near vertical position, as shown in dotted lines. An annular collector trough 56 is secured to the housing and has a shelf 58 for receiving decanting liquids from the tubes 46 when rotated in their vertical or near vertical position. The trough 56 has a drain outlet 59 to which is connected a flexible tube 61. The distributor 70 consists of a nozzle holder 71 to which a closure cover 72 is releasably connected by screws 73. The bottom portion of the holder carries a spring element 78 by means of which the holder is releasably mounted on a knob 48 at the end of a stub 47 which is secured to the upper interior end of rotor hub 37. Pins 82 mountedin the bottom surface of nozzle holder 71 engage into corresponding sockets in the plate 38 so that the distributor 70 rotates with the rotor. Tubular nozzles 84 projecting in the test-tubes 46 are located in channels 83 in the nozzle holder. The channels communicate with a well 85 formed in the cover 72. Wash liquid is introduced into the well via a nozzle 66 at the end of an angled tubular fixture 21 which is connected by a flexible tube to a wash liquid reservoir, liquid being delivered to the well by means of a peristaltic pump acting on the flexible tube, Fig. 1 (not shown). A downwardly extending baffle is provided at 63. Electric circuitry, Fig. 9 (not shown) is provided for operating the two-speed electric motor and the pump and includes timing means for determining the sequence and timing of introducing wash liquid into the test-tubes and for operating the electric motor at relatively high centrifugal speed and relatively low decanting speed.
