<p>1400941 Testing rubber tyre compounds KENTREDDER Ltd 7 Feb 1974 [3 Jan 1973] 343/73 Heading G1S Apparatus for simulating the conditions of a tyre tread running on a surface, comprises carriers 3 Figs. 2, 3, mounting test pieces 16 of rubber compound fixed to a motor driven disk 1, the test pieces being brought into intermittent slapping rotational slipping contact with abrasive rings 10 fixed to hubs 9 mounted on columns 8, the hubs 9 being normally held against rotation on the columns by brake pads 11 pressed by springs 12 against plates 14, 15 fixed to 8. Each column 8 is mounted on a carriage 4 which is thrust by a piston 7 to press a cam follower 6 against cams 2 on the revolving disk 1 so that the revolving test pieces 16 are intermittently slapped against the disks 10. Slip between the two meeting faces of 10 and 16 will take place until the friction is overcome between the spring pressed disks 11 on the hub 9 against the plates 14, 15 and the hub rotates until 10 and 16 separate. Variations of the test conditions may be effected by altering rotational speeds, by varying the braking force of the disks 11 and substituting differently surfaced rings 10, by varying cam heights to simulate deflection caused by different tyre pressures, or by tilting the shaft 8, Fig. 4 (not shown) to simulate the effects of steering. The shaft 8 and the hub 9 could however . be driven to rotate at a greater speed than disk 1, and water may be sprayed on to the ring 10.</p> |
