Grinder comprises a cylindrical vessel uniform dia. the inside of which is divided by a transverse partition into a pregrinding compartment and a fine grinding compartment. The pregrinding compartments is 1/3 the length of the vessel and has lifting bars on its periphery and deflectors on its flanks to encourage self induced grinding opt. assisted by only a small volume of grinding media. The increase of the dia. of the pregrinding zone to the same size as the main zone (c.f prior machines) simplified its prodn. and allows room for the introduction of the lifting bars and deflectors which provide additional grinding action more cheaply.
