The application is principally to socket outlets for domestic appliances or small hand tools. It enables the length of appliance lead required between the workplace and the socket outlet to be greatly reduced. A profiled rails is fixed onto or into the wall, running horizontally at the required height. The socket (1) is provided with hooked projections (2, 3) which engage with correspondingly shaped parts of the rail and permit the socket to be pushed along to the desired position but prevent it from falling or being pulled out. The projections have contact surfaces (4, 5) for collecting the current from contact strips in the rail, these being placed where they are shrouded from inadvertent contact. Several sockets can be utilised on one rail.
