<p>Germicidal compsns. in gel form contain iodine, a water soluble iodide to give an I:I2 ratio >0.25:1 and about 20-30 wt. % of a block copolymer of formula: HO(C2H4O)x(C3H6O)y(C2H4O)xH(I). The mol. wt. of the hydrophobic polypropylene fragment is 3500-4500 and the overall molecular wt. is 11000-12000. The compsns. are extremely stable and are liquid at low temps., which aids incorporation of the various components. At room temp. the gels are suitable for topical application. In an example, an ointment was prepd. contg. 25% Pluronic F-127 (RTM), 1.25% iodine, 0.60% NaI, 0.35% citric acid, 0.43% NaOH (46 degrees B), and 72.37% water.</p> |
