<p>The fire escape has a surface with a gentle slope to allow different shapes to pass between two floors of a building, and can be used for the evacuation of persons on stretchers. It can be insulated from the rest of the building by a screen, and the central part can be used to accommodate a cage and shields. A stop may be provided at the outlet end of the chute for halting the stretchers, and there can be a movable section of the chute, to allow evacuation of stretcher cases from each floor. The escape can be constructed with the building or added on afterwards, and the stretchers can be equipped with guide and retarding devices, being normally used as beds on the ground or on supports.</p> |
