1379534 Methenamine mandelate compositions WARNER-LAMBERT CO 25 June 1973 [3 July 1972] 30062/73 Heading A5B Coated methenamine mandelate particles comprise (a) 20-80% by weight of finely powdered methenamine mandelate; (b) 5-35% by weight of ethyl cellulose, and (c) 15-45% by weight of hydrogenated castor oil and/or paraffin and/or at least one polyethylene glycol polymer having an average molecular weight of 200-20,000, all percentages being based on the total weight of the coated particles. The ethyl cellulose used preferably contains between 43 and 51% of ethoxy radicals and has a viscosity of 6 to 350 centipoises when dissolved at a 5% concentration in a mixture of 80 parts toluene and 20 parts alcohol. The hydrogenated castor oil preferably has a molecular weight of about 932 and a melting point of 86-88‹C. The polyethylene glycol polymer preferably has a molecular weight of 950-7000. Pharmaceutical compositions may be obtained by suspending the coated particles in a suitable oily vehicle such as sesame oil, olive oil, peanut oil, corn oil, refined coconut oil or cotton seed oil. The composition may contain a suspension stabiliser such as the triglyceride of 12-hydroxystearic acid. The coated particles have improved taste qualities.
|
