<p>1438119 Gas purification EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 1 Aug 1973 [1 Sept 1972] 36529/73 Heading C1A Nitrogen oxides and sulphur oxides are removed simultaneously from a gas stream containing in addition oxygen by adding ammonia to said gas stream to provide at least 0À5 mole of ammonia per mole of NO x present in said gas stream, and contacting the resultant stream under oxidizing conditions and high temperatures with a solid contact mass comprising at least one non-noble transition metal oxide disposed on a porous carrier having a surface area of at least 80 m.<SP>2</SP>/gram., said contact mass being a selective sorbent for removal of SO x and a catalyst for selective reduction of NO x . The metal oxide may comprise copper oxide or a mixture of potassium oxide and vanadium pentoxide: other metal oxides which may be present include those of iron, cobalt, nickel, chromium, molybdenum and tungsten. The metal oxide may be supported on alumina, silica, or alumina-silica, and the temperature at which the contacting is carried out may be between 600‹ and 900‹ F. The contact mass may be regenerated by reaction with a reducing gas such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, ethane, propane or butane, and the reducing gas may be mixed with steam if desired.</p> |
