1482416 Knitted fabrics GOSCOTE ENG Ltd 12 Nov 1974 [22 Nov 1973] 54299/73 Heading D1K Weft-knitted fabric with rib and/or purl loops has unknitted weft yarn Y, Y', contrasting with the ground yarn, laid-in and locked into the latter by being knocked-over with loops of courses of at least one of the faces of the fabric in alternate single wales or spaced pairs or groups of wales so as to form bights (i.e. tuck-loops) b, b' (Fig. 1) and to be floated across the intervening wales, the bights b, b' being staggered from course to course. Both fabrics shown have the laid-in yarn knocked over with loops only of one (the rib) face, but bights may be formed with loops of both faces to give a reversible fabric if identical yarns are laid-in. The yarns may be laid-in by a wheel as disclosed in Specification 1382286 to feed the yarns to selected needles raised to tuck height, and to displace the yarns behind the plane of the remaining, retracted, needles. Alernatively, needle-deflecting cams may be used: The laid-in yarn Y, Y' may be metallic or fancy, e.g. knop or slub, or may differ from the ground yarn only in colour, Fig. 1 shows a modified Milano rib and Fig. 2 a piquÚ fabric with a patterning panel PK of plain knitting.
|
